Deep Knowledge of Jesus (John 14:22-27, Mark 5:6-10)

Rev. Dr. Ramon E. McDonald II, August 6, 2017
Part of the Peace & Assurance series, preached at a Sunday Morning Contemporary service

Peace and Assurance - Surface knowledge is good but not enough. We need to deepen our relationship with Jesus in order to experience the peace and assurance that Jesus promises us. We must walk with Jesus - by the presence of the Holy Spirit. We must delve into the very presence of God. Some will say we must soak or saturate ourselves with Jesus.

John 14:22-27

22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (ESV)

Mark 5:6-10

And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” 10 And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country.
